Technology Driven Transition, Green Financing & Path to Net Zero – Your ESG Round Up

todayAugust 3, 2022

Background

This month on the Commodity Trading Insider we are focusing on ESG by looking at some of the most popular sessions and pieces of content from Commodity Trading Week 2022, Commodity Trading Week Americas 2022 and our Online Webinar series.

Following on from all of our great sessions this year featuring ESG, here are our top take-aways:

  • Despite what goes on globally, supply and demand doesn't go away; whatever mechanism you put in place instead of the market will not be reflective of market fundamentals.
  • It's important to understand that the carbon market is divided into a few segments. It's not a global one, it's localised in different countries and regions. Europe's carbon market is quite popular, and is making more progress than the others.
  • It's currently a very nascent market, and will take 3-5 years to see scalability; it's crucial to try and set aside all concerns about investments made in previous years and whether a return on this will be seen at this early stage.

Catch up on the discussion about “What Technologies will Drive the Journey to Net Zero?”, exploring what the system requirements are to incorporate carbon footprint, how technology can help with reporting, and how trading systems can support the move towards more renewable products

We've also got an insightful conversation on Green Financing: Looking at Commodity Trading Through the Investors' Lens, with a panel discussion about how investors look at businesses, the pressures they get & pass on, ESG requirements at a European level, and whether standardisation is possible.

Don't forget to check out all the other presentations, interviews, and discussions available on the Insider – all free to access.

In this session, “Executive Roundtable: Impact of Carbon Policy on Commodity Trading”, Ben Hillary, Marc Merrill, Randall Lack, Marty Weems & Adam Raphaely explored the impact of sustainability initiatives on commodity trading companies, combatting image issues in an increasingly climate-focused world, the impact of sustainability initiatives on investment, and ESG from a leadership perspective & creating a culture of sustainability trading.
